Industrial Routers with eSIM Support
What is eSIM?
eSIM is a global specification defined by the GSMA that enables remote SIM provisioning of any mobile device. eSIM is defined by the GSMA as the next generation of SIM for connected consumer devices. eSIM-enabled network solutions can be used in a wide range of IoT scenarios including connecting automobiles (smart mirrors, on-board diagnostics (OBD), in-vehicle Wi-Fi hotspots), AI translators, smart headsets, smart metering, GPS trackers, DTUs, industrial routers, and other devices. Fi hotspot), AI translators, MiFi devices, smart headsets, smart metering, GPS trackers, DTUs, industrial routers, shared bikes, advertisement players, video surveillance devices, and so on.
The SIM card we usually use is made of PVC, which contains a piece of integrated circuit, and is used by putting it into the SIM card slot of a cell phone or other cellular network device. eSIM is a form of SIM card directly embedded in the device, in which the e refers to embedded, which is a piece of chip permanently soldered to the circuit board of the device, and the SIM card information is stored in the chip and can be programmed and modified. The SIM card information is stored in the chip and can be programmed to change operators or packages. eSIM card can also support the writing of information from multiple SIM cards, realizing multiple networks with one card and network switching according to the settings.
Advantages and Disadvantages
Advantages:
Multiple SIMs can be stored at the same time.
There is no risk of SIM card loss.
If the device is stolen, it can be tracked by eSIM information, and the SIM card can be removed.
The risk of damaging the SIM slot when inserting and removing SIM cards is eliminated.
Saves space inside the device and facilitates device miniaturization.
Disadvantages:
If the device is damaged, phone, SMS, and internet capabilities cannot be immediately restored
and the physical SIM card can be transferred from a damaged device to a new one.
If the device is repaired or loaned to someone else, the card cannot be removed.
The location of the device can always be tracked if the device is switched on;
When selling or disposing of an eSIM device, the eSIM account must be deleted or transferred.
Compatibility issues with some devices.
Jincan Network’s latest ZX5206 and ZX5478 industrial routers fully support eSIM function, which can realize eSIM features such as multi-network backup, remote switching, automatic switching, and package change by embedded eSIM chip.
